Keep your arrogant comments to yourself Mr Crabby Market Reporter, & don’t forget where you came from.
I’ll NEVER understand why other farmers are so negative and not willing to help the next generation. Not everyone has unlimited knowledge and experience in all aspects of the business.
The way I read it, Gary seems to be saying that the answer is so obvious he can't believe that you needed to ask it. Polite or not, he's being helpful in a way.
That said, I agree with Lb94 that rotational grazing will do as much or more to increase stocking rate than fertilizer. I've been managing some pasture as part of a crop rotation for close to 20 years on rotational grazing and spreading pen pack manure every other year and no other fertilizer. Productivity is good and since I rotationally graze I am able to cut some hay during the spring flush, so my manure application is mostly just bringing back the nutrients from the hay, plus what is in the bedding.
One thing to consider with N fertilizer application is timing to optimize benefits. Spreading now will mostly increase growth during the period where cool season grasses are at their peak growth anyhow. If your budget is limited, better to mow the heads off in June and fertilize them to increase summer production. |
