Subject: RE: Steady Steer gear ring

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have Steady Steer in my Deere 9770 combine. Since the steering wheel has a deep dish to it, the top portion helps keep the ring nicely centered on the steering wheel and I don't feel those "catches" that you refer to.

I moved my Steady Steer my older Hagie STS-12 sprayer. Due to the shape of the steering wheel, I needed to use the generic install kit. This was much more difficult to adjust properly and I spent a considerable amount of time getting it "centered" properly. It appears that you are using the generic kit also which may be part of the problem. I found that my tightening the split ring very gradually, I was able to adjust the pieces slightly and reduce the "catch" where they join.

Turns out Steady Steer did not work out well for spraying in row crops which is the exclusive use of the sprayer so we will not be moving Steady Steer to the Hagie this year unless we need to do some broad acre spraying. I believe Steady Steer would be fine for that.

Between GPS drift (TerraStar Pro C), planter drift and increased ground speed, Steady Steer was not up to the task in rowed crops based on the planter tractor's AB lines.

Steady Steer works fine in the combine for harvesting soybeans since the head (35') allows some grace when taking 14-30" rows.

For corn harvest, I use the Headsight feeler system which runs the Steady Steer motor rather than the Steady Steer ECU. All steering is based on the feelers.
