Mid-Michigan | I know with wheat it (your money) has gone into mostly research. Growing a better crops. Head scab. And growing the quality that miller's require. The end user (bakeries) are demanding certain qualities. Most of your dollars (at least here in michigan) are directed straight to farmers as educational tools so you can grow a better crops. Wheat is such a minor player compared to corn and soys that marketing is a distance away. They try hard to get the ears of Representatives, but farmers definitely were against lobbying efforts. Lobbying is where the game is played. That is where the palms get greased and your money simply disappears. I think in a minor role, corn and soys have tried hard to get into the game without violating any rules but it's a very big boy game. I'm not saying that our check off dollars are wasted but affecting markets is difficult. And yes, the executives of these boards are paid. Exuberantly? I don't think so, but they aren't working for free. | |
