Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | You mention above that you tried a null modem and blew a fuse.
Was this an Ag Leader null modem or a generic null modem that you got from an electronics supply house?
You should use an Ag Leader null modem since it only contains pins 2,3 & 5. It swaps pins 2 & 3, and pin 5 goes to pin 5 for signal ground.
With a generic null modem other pairs of pins get swapped also which is what likely caused your fuse to blow. Ag Leader uses Pins 4 & 6 out of their display cable for power and ground when connected to their GPS receivers. Since your GPS receiver is already powered, these pins are not needed and more importantly should not be present. The 12V coming out of your Ag Leader display cable then likely connected to a ground due to the generic null modem from your other cable causing a dead short.
If you were lucky, the fuse blew before there was damage.
This is why the Ag Leader null modem adapter cable that KRK mentions above should be used. It uses only pins 2,3 and 5 so the power/ground pins are not used and will not cause problems.
