central Ia | Don't know which thread to post on so will do this one. Started farming in 81 240 acres and raising pigs, picked up 240 acres during the first 14 yrs but then the landlord died and they sold the farm, PRRS hit my farrow to finish a couple of times and packers were getting to where they didn't want to buy from the small producer so it was get big or get out, for me I got out and luckily found a great job in town, thought I would do that a few years till I could rent more ground but after a couple years sat down and put a pencil to it to see how many acres I would have to farm to pay the same as my job in town with benefits, didn't take long to decide I would just farm the 320 acres I had and work in town. Retired in 19 at 65 and been happy with what I did, hobby farming and work full time for 25 yrs | |
