Kingfisher, you are absolutely correct. EVs don't and can't "idle". There is no clutch or torque convertor to let the motor spin when the wheels aren't turning. When you want to go, you turn on juice to the motor, the motor spins, and the wheels turn. Idling is an obsolete concept. If it is cold and you want to heat the cabin, a small electric motor turns the heat pump, to pump heat where it is needed. When sitting, it is actually easier to heat the cabin than if you are moving. EVs with heat pumps work much better in the cold than an ICE and you aren't contaminating the oil or fouling the exhaust like you would on an ICE.
