| A high school friend of mine was planning to build his new house pole barn style and then finish off the inside. I told him to price the cost of stick building the same plan. He did not believe me when I told him it would be cheaper. He ended up going stick build. I have a friend locally that builds pole barns. He built his own new house last year. He too did a stick build with no basement on the house even though he also builds pole barns. A lot of the savings on stick build comes from finishing the inside.
It is not always wrong to go pole barn style. There is an advantage to getting the shell up and enclosed quickly. For someone who wants the shell up in the fall so they can work on the inside through the winter, it is a viable option. In some of those situations the labor savings of doing a lot of the work yourself through the winter can offset other costs. | |
