The recipe she had specified shortening, but she used butter.
My Mom always used shortening..........and they were great when really fresh, but stiffened up too much shortly afterwards. As a bachelor I made some with butter once because I didn't keep shortening in the house. I liked how soft they were..........but something was almost too greasy about the taste. I then settled on half shortening and half butter, it seems like the perfect blend...........and my wife has now settled in on that recipe. They are great! |
