The drive train most definitely can. Electric motors are very strong. Now, how long the battery last becomes the issue. Lots of weight and hills eats power be it combustible fuels or sparky sparks. We can currently put enough liquid fuel on a vehicle to last a good long distance and easily refuel them. Currently hard to put the same distance range fuel in a battery but it's quickly getting better.
