West Lafayette IN | Bitcoin reminds me of the story of the Dutch tulip bulb mania from 1634-1637. The price of tulip bulbs skyrocketed because no one wanted to be left out of the easy money investment. At the height of the bubble, one tulip bulb was traded for 12 acres of land. Another bulb sold for 5,500 florins or $750,000 in U.S. dollars.
All of the sudden they realized that the tulip bulbs had no real intrinsic value. Yes, they were very pretty, but had no real value. The price fell like a rock, but at least they had the pretty flowers.
