I have used the Consumer Reports version of chocolate cookies since I first saw it in 1985 (about). First thing I learned is you have to follow the instructions to the letter. Including how fast you add the butter and what size eggs to use. The only thing I have changed is I add 1 1/2 teaspoons of real vanilla extract, I never use imitation. It appears that the Consumers Report recipe is virtually identical to the other one posted here. I tried it once with baking powder instead of baking soda and the results were a little fluffier cookie that was not as soft in the middle and more firm/crunchy on the outside.
I am making them this morning to take to work tomorrow. I make about 4 dozen and half will be gone today and the rest by the end of coffee break tomorrow.
