It has no real physical value and it is not currency backed by the US Govt.
You can pretend all you want that it is accepted as currency but everything you can buy with Bitcoin is actually priced in USD and then converted to Bitcoin no different than if you wanted to pay with Canadian $'s, Gold, Silver or bushels of corn.
