GS2, You aren’t quite right on how long it took to drill wells. You must have heard that in a safety orientation. Lol. Vertical wells took maybe a month 40 years ago. Once the Bakken boom started most horizontal wells were drilled in less than a month unless they had problems, got stuck, etc. Within a few years, they could drill one in 2 weeks or less, and now it does take just a couple days.

I had to take a safety orientation a few years ago and guy doing the orientation said what you said about it taking months to do a vertical well. I just looked at him and shook my head. He had no clue.

Well they sat here for 6 months 20 years ago and there's only one vertical well there. 15 years ago they went across the road and sat there for another 6 months and made one horizontal well.

Pipe went down every day for 5 months each time, they stacked it more than a few times. I watched them everyday as we drove past them every day to get mail.

The new 6 well pad to the NE of them took 3 weeks from field to empty pad however, that was this summer.

All 8 are Bakken wells, even the vertical which does nothing but stink.

Perhaps 20 years ago we got an old wore out rig and an incompetent crew, but all the rigs in my area sat and worked away for a long, long time, until the last 5 years when they came back to do a pile of multi well pads, all of those were done quickly.

Recently there have been a few multi month wells drilled-Fox Hills wells. Those put the Bakken to shame.
