Subject: RE: Christmas Sweets Traditions Gone?

Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa

Our kids and grandkids won't ever experience the thrill of that huge orange and huge Red Delicious apple in the Christmas stocking, along with the walnuts and "Brazil nuts".....they can't comprehend what it was like to only have that kind of fresh fruit seasonally, and what a treat it was to have both in cold mid-winter.  My grandma was the candy maker. Divinity, both white and pink, several kinds of fudge (mostly with black walnuts in it....blechhhhhh. How she did love black walnuts!) Stained glass candy, She taught me to make a lot of those treats, but by the time I had an interest in doing it, I also had little kids and lots full of hogs needing tended, so never capitalized on the training. Maybe someday, now that I'm old.
