If you want to save money building a house: don’t put dormers in, have a single roofline, use steel roofing and siding, and don’t put in expensive cabinets/countertops/interior amenities that can easily be updated later. The shell of a house is pretty cheap in the grand scheme of things. It’s the finishing and furnishing that jack the price up. Put in good windows and insulation because you won’t get another opportunity to do so.
No one wants to talk about the elephant in the room. High maintenance partners require expensive dwellings. They don’t want to live in a shop. So in order to convince them it’s not a shop: dormers, bay windows, marble countertops etc are put in bringing the cost over seven figures anyway. Talking about expectations before marriage would avoid 99% of these issues. | |
