Very true. We need to figure cost per hour rather than cost per acre. A huge combine can run over a huge amount of acres in a day compared to a mid-sized combine. So theoretically if both the huge and mid-sized combines break down at an equal amount of hours the huge combine should cost less per acre to operate. Realistically, I don't know. From what little I have seen the huge combine is almost trying to push more grain through the same size hole as a smaller combine in the threshing area while trying to keep the physical size of the combine from getting too big to handle. There is more stress on drives. Maybe more repair expense in the drives after the combine gets a few hours on it?
