coast of Maine
Here it was common 30 years ago to build the basement(basements used to be in 99% of homes),cap it and live there for a bit to save $$,you had septic, land, well and the concrete and beginnings of electrical entrance, for then it was sub 100 grand which was then used as an asset for the future house. Some what of a trend past 10 years are the gambrel roofed shop home combo.Shop on base and home above.Still some being done.Savings are there for interest on borrowing less funds to start.Gives the starting mechanic a chance to have his shop cheaper,,,just the savings on electrical/septic/drive/maybe internet/water well comparing two places built ,,is a huge savings. Now 2 A lots with entrance/septic/power are over 100 grand with zero structures,,so many are doing the prefab route or double wides and coming in with the lowest pkg near 325K$.No basement,no garage, not a stick built. If you want a garage and a house you will save,,,but for me I would avoid but to each his own but Im not starting out,,,maybe fading out,,hehehhe
