North Central Illinois | I've rotationally grazed grass/alfalfa mixes for years. Only killed one ewe and the alfalfa was blooming when that happened... So I still don't know exactly what the "triggers" are every time, but I did make them graze the previous patch down pretty low so they were hungry. Making sure that they're always full definitely helps.
Mom does the same with cattle and her 3 cardinal rules are: turn them out full, don't give a new break if there's dew on it, and don't turn them out when there's frost on it. | |
