East of Broken Bow | We have an IH furnace in our house, put in in I think 1969. Last year I had to put bearings in the fan. It was harder to source bearings than replace them, but fortunately there was a placard that had the fan specs, so I was able to find some. Could have gotten Chinese bearings for $10 each, but I went with the OEM brand name bearings, still made in USA for about $30 each.
Oh, and yes, I had the furnace inspected to be sure it was worth fixing, and the furnace guy said that it would likely outlast a new one. Only problem is that it isn't all that 'green' and a new furnace would burn 10% less propane. So, on a normal winter I use maybe 500 gallons, so if I save 50 gallons at $1.20 that is $60 a year I save by putting in a new $6000 furnace, only a 100 year payback, and that is assuming the new furnace lasts that long. And they call it progress.
Kind of like some of the new light bulbs. Save $1 a year in electricity, but replace a $7 bulb every 6 months (where the old bulb was 99 cents and lasted several years). | |
