Ft. Ripley MN | I never said anything about you guys being dumb… I’m honestly curious and invested in your situation… I honestly think it’s wrong… you’re doing all of that and there is no profit?? I honestly wanna know what the answer is to how do we fix that?? The government isn’t the answer… I wanna see all of us succeed.. I don’t farm in the i states… my area would be considered fringe. I don’t do cash crops my main focus is on cattle. Everything I raise goes towards them. Im looking at ways to extract more value out of the cattle and acres vs just keep expanding. You are only doing what you think is best. I truly am sorry I came off in a negative way. I will have to answer to the lord for that. I just wanna know your situation because why can’t we work together and figure out a way. Im sorry it’s that bad for you.. i don’t wish that on anyone. If there is a will there is a way… based off what you said .. I’m guessing we are similar age.. i have a story to but that’s not important. What’s important is figuring out how to fix this without the government’s involvement. Im truly apologize I came off as an a**hole but I just wanna do what’s right and help if I can
I watched land get plowed under that should of stayed in sod because of $7 corn… twice actually and now the hunting crowd found us…. marginal land is going for stupid money which makes productive land that much more expensive. Sell bulls and heifers for seedstock… the rest of the feeders trying to transition them into freezer beef. Figured out my costs.. I’m the most expensive in the area and I will be just about break even.. that’s figuring October 2025 futures and processing costs. I work 70 hours a week 9-10 months of a year to bring in extra cash and pay for living expenses. I’m not saying it doesn’t suck but it’s working and I’m leap frogging a few years… I will admit I have a problem when people say government subsidies are owed and deserved.. I understand they are there but it seems like no one wants to look for a solution out of the problem.. let’s just keep on the gravy train. I guess I would rather give up some profit if we can make sure our kids have a chance…
I’m gonna add one thing… in our neighborhood there is only a few guys that chop their own corn… otherwise everyone else gets its custom harvested by the same guy. I rent a farm next to one of these guys and I have known him many years. He mentioned one time why we all don’t chop for each other.. one guy owns the chopper, one guy has the packing tractor, the rest own the wagons and tractor/trucks. I told him I agree it’s a fantastic idea. Nothing ever came to it because we focus on ourselves.. instead of working with our neighbors. Wasn’t that long ago when people would help each other.. remember threshing crews??
