You are 110% right. There is not 1 thing better about a top post, not one.
The only worthless top posts we have left is those where it's a 2 hour job to take the old cable out and build a new one because there's not enuff room to crimp a new end on.
If you're going to put a top post together so it will never get loose and spark and melt the cable end and post you have to:
Spread the terminal
Wire brush post
Wire brush inside of cable end
Tap terminal end onto the post with deep socket so they get all the way on.
Someone with very little experience can change a threaded post. If that same person changes a top post you will have no start situations and possible melted end and post.
Spray the magic goop on.
With threaded post, 9/16 wrench, done.
Yep. It's not that our tapered post battery connections are all corroded up, we also use a corrosion preventer. Works great.
But I'll still take a stud type battery every day of the week, and twice on Sunday!! They are better in every way, IMO. |
