Subject: RE: 4WD on Mounted Planter

Latimer, Iowa (north central)
We ran a (old 4wd) JD 7520 with a 12 row mounted 7000 planter for a long time. Don’t remember the rows being any more crooked than anyone else’s. Was the rig I learned to plant with.

Banded chemicals and the 4wd carried the weight better. 6 row cornhead on a 6600 so it matched the planter.

Traded in on a 16 row 7200 we pulled with a 4640 in 1994. 4640 was a bit nicer cab but that 4wd with a mounted planter was a bit like a self propelled sprayer. Very easy to maneuver and back into corners.

The 7520 had No live PTO with a PTO sprayer/chemical pump did make it a bit more of a challenge.

If you need the 4wd for other purposes I wouldn’t not trade because of the planter.
