Faunsdale, AL | I was only there one year, so I didn’t know any older alumni really. It was a highlight of my college education. Had applied to go to veterinary school that year through a program Auburn had that allowed you to go after only 3 years of undergraduate study in Animal and Dairy science.
I wasn’t accepted, so I had a year to spend taking all the senior year dairy science courses that were never offered at Auburn. My girl friend/future wife was starting graduate school at VPI that year as well, so that had a lot to do with the decision!
It was a good program. Dr. Etgen, Bob James, Dave Kohl and many others really impressed me and I learned a lot.
Your Dad may have known Ole Mehland (Mayland?? maybe not spelled right) since he was a long time graduate student by the time I transferred. Ole had a house that I roomed in along with two other undergraduate students. Dr Keith Cummins had taken a job at Auburn a couple years before after graduate school at VPI, so he would probably have been there about the same time as your father.
