Most of the time their advertising states something to the effect of 

"shows ____ miles",   "shows ____ acres", or "shows ____ hours"


Chalk it up to failure to perform due diligence.    IMO, if you like the planter and were happy with its condition and with what you paid for it before finding out the acres, move on.
 
What on earth did we ever do before every planter had a computer on it that kept track of how many acres it has planted?    Just guess based on acres farmed and the age of the planter.
