If corn went to $1/ bu and beans $2/ bu do you think they still wouldn’t want gov help. Or at what price should gov step in? Or should we leave farmers to all fail?
Let's just embrace your thought experiment.
If farmers cost of production was $4/bushel for corn and...heck I don't grow beans much but let's say $10/bushel for beans while prices fell to where you are talking, are you saying you want the government to subsidize farmers by $3.50 a bushel for corn and $9 for beans so that farmers can keep making a profit?
I'm guessing you would say no, that sounds crazy. I mean, can you imagine the government giving an Iowa or IL farmer or a Nebraska or Kansas irrigated corn farmer $875 per acre so that the farmer can turn a profit? Surely you're not advocating for that?
If you're not advocating for that, then why is it ok to subsidize by $50 or $100 or whatever we end up with on a given year? Where is this imaginary line above which it's not OK and below which it is OK?
