the farmers that dont want it are farmers squatting on paid for land generations ago. They are very comfortable and dont like the progressive farmers as all the land is paid for. Plus they have fifty fifty crop share sweetheart deals so that adds ino the equation too.


Ok, yes, I have one 50/50 lease, but I don’t own the majority of my land.
I think that farmers would be less willing to bid cash rents as high without subsidized crop insurance.
But I can see the need for lower level enterprise insurance in many cases. I don’t think that would be quite as distorting as our current system.
