For me first week of may is still early. 100k would be tiny bit light unless going into the best of your farm. I prefer 30” planting and have tried many row widths. Personally preferto plant soybeans less on my best soil…. most on the worst, average 105-110k field population. Get past the 15th of may and more population should pay.

There are fields that are more prone to crusting that the extra beans could help bring the rest up. In that case 30” beans have an advantage 70k would be the same beans per foot as 140k in 15”. Took 13 years but changing all my base saturations to numbers I like has made this less of an issue.
