Can we also add grease guns to that list, I swear some people figure if thr gun runs empty the grease job is done and they just throw it back on the shelf
I've also noticed a grease gun always goes empty after climbing the ladder and getting down inside the combine engine compartment.
I’ve learned (took way too long though) to go grease those places right after I just put a new tube in. No matter what. Start on the easy ones if by chance the gun is not empty when I pick it up, which is rare, but I’ll stop in the middle of my routine to go get those places with a full tube. I will also grease whatever else is around just to get the tube empty for those kinds of places.
I would say 65% of the time the grease gun is completely empty when I go to use it. So I know something didn’t get greased. Or somebody is way luckier than I am and always hits it perfect. Or they just came back and emptied another gun. We have 3 Milwaukee grease guns, at times all 3 are empty at the same time. I often think somebody here puts more effort into making sure they’re empty than the effort it would take to just put a new tube in. I would say 30% of the time, I get fooled and turn into a 2 pump chump and then it’s empty, even after playing spin the barrel to see if I can get any more out of it. So I know somebody already played spin the barrel and knew it was almost empty. And I would say 25% of the time, I’ll put it back empty just to get even with whoever screwed me over. So I guess there’s a chance nobody else greases anything and I’m just inflicting payback on myself and that’s why it’s usually empty when I grab it next time.
Edit to add: This is also true for oxygen bottles on the torch. It seems I often have to spend 15 minutes for a 5 minute torch job because I have to swap tanks from the get go. Also applies for propane cylinders on the forklift. And trucks sitting on E when I just need a quick trip. It would seem like if I didn’t refill grease guns, swap forklift cylinders and torch bottles, and refuel trucks…this place would be at a stand still. And the oddest thing is…everybody here feels the same way I do about themselves as I do about myself. Go figure.
