NW Iowa | I grew up on straight from the cow milk, almost a gallon a day when I was growing fast. It came out of a shorthorn but later on it came from a Jersey. But I liked the flavor of store bought milk better. When we had the Jersey I would skim the heavy cream and use it to make up a batch of whipped cream with vanilla and lots of sugar. Then I would eat the whole batch. Did’t do it often but sometimes I could sneak it past my parents. This was back when I couldn’t get fat if I tried. My Saturday morning job was cranking the butter churn. It was a boring job but the sweet buttermilk was my reward. These are things very few modern youth have the opportunity to experience. | |
