If you seen the movie Christmas vacation, you should know what might happen when you mess with your employees Christmas bonuses.

The trouble with bonuses given at Christmas time is the employee expects and budgets their finances expecting the bonus from the previous year. Compound their frustrations when the owner gets a six figure check from Uncle Sam at year end legislation and tells employees to tighten their belts so the owner can make a better return.

You can be spot on with your rationale in decreasing a bonus, but it can also lead to higher employment costs in the future due to employee turnover.
