southeast Iowa
I planted 6 acres. stockpiled and grazed. 29 head got 7 weeks. they are still picking some off the ground. they love it. it was dead and brown when I turned them in.
Had 3 acres I grazed green. 37 head got maybe 8 days. They love it.
Last year I chopped 10 acres. Gestating cows got fat on it. They love it.
Cheaper to grow. Got 24 ton/acre with baralytic Dwarf. And you want the dwarf. If it goes down, (and it can) before you get it chopped you got a mess.
If you have some ****ty soils that doesn't grow corn well, that is the place for it. That's white oak soils and ox bows here.
