Iowa | I hate to say it but I think to a certain extent you’re correct. I’d also say I think things like the united healthcare ceo killing is going to become more common.
The lower and lower middle class is made of of 3 groups of people:
Those that don’t work at all and government gives them everything.
Those who are content with their situation, or who have addictions or health problems that keep them from rising.
Those that are working multiple jobs doing everything they can and still losing ground. This is the group that has changed - there isn’t hope to rise right now and they’re falling further behind — and fast.
Of those 3 groups have you ever hear ANY of them say “I’m lazy”, or “I’m a mooch”? No. Even the first 2 (who in effect are choosing to be in that position would tell you they work really hard. I’ve got a Facebook acquaintance that hasn’t worked in 3 years, divorced her husband, and can’t afford a house - yet it someone else’s fault. The problem is the 3rd group, it’s probably 60% of the workforce, and they are going backwards fast. They never got any ppp money, many of them kept working 50 hr weeks, they feel like slaves to a job that doesn’t care, and landlords who won’t provide any maintenance to their dwellings. It becomes an echo chamber as that part of the middle class is saying the same as the other groups. Historically periods of inflation cause social unrest.
Couple that with a wealthy class that isn’t content and only wants more - and you have a recipe for problems. All the corporations and rich people want year over year growth on growth rates, which is impossible as inflation slows.
So yes to a certain extent I agree. Trump is gonna have his hands full to thread the needle on this one.
