I really don't like any in furrow fertilizers. Low rates are susceptible to plugging, corrosion on your planter is an issue as well as the potential for crop damage like you experienced. I dribble a mixture of 32%, 10-34-0 and sulfur 2 inches off the row behind the planter. It's clean and easy. I have no proof that it pays and would eliminate it entirely if I had evidence that it didn't. At least I'm pretty sure it has never caused damage.
