Thumb of Michigan | We did. Challenge (for us anyway) is that in our case, we were using cereal rye as a cover. Past experience had been that we had no luck at all trying to burn down rye that was less than about a foot tall. So, we not only planted green, but kept it green for a while. It worked usually, but its concerning.
I think that planting into dead cover when going early might be a little less advantageous for the reasons you want to plant a cover, but going into something like winter killed oats or radish is the safest bet.
Location and whats determined to be "early" make all that maybe not an issue for you. For us, early was March. Pretty cool here in March usually. | |
