North Central KS
A couple years ago I would have agreed with you as We farm in central KS where we probably get the same or less rain than farther north into that area of Nebraska. I have done covers ahead of milo the last 2 years. 2023 with a wheat cover ahead of milo terminated a month before planting the milo appraised at 3 bushel. This year I killed triitcale a month before planting milo and then had to replant because of the chinch bugs, ended up making 90 bushels and the weed control was incredible. It takes rain no doubt about it, but I believe after trying a couple years, the soil improves and eventually the yield drag will lower. We must keep trying, to compete with the weeds, run cattle across it, and to better our soil.
