NW KS | If you used a long range optical transceiver on too short of a run you can run into issues where the transmitter will have enough power to burn out the receiver. From what I read that used to be more of a problem in the past but more modern transceivers have less of an issue. Basically any optical transceiver with a range of less than 20 kilometer should be safe. There a several different ranges you can buy with 550 meter, 15 kilometer, and 20 kilometer being common.
As far as speeds I only brought 1 gigabyte equipment. I have use iPerf to test between two computers on either end of the fiber link and get full rated speed. The mechanical connectors could possibly be an issue at higher network speeds. I would guess that 2.5 and 5 gigabyte would work but I'm not as confident at 10. | |
