How stupid of me. And how smart of you.
That's exactly what I do on one machine. It works fine, except for printing. And for that I copy the output files to a flash drive and then use the regular computer to print them.
I use VMware workstation which is free.
If you're looking for VM type of systems VirtualBox works fairly well. (Has some issues as every time you update VB you have hassles with M$ software (you have a new system kind of garbage) but it does work!!!!)
