Subject: 2nd unmanaged switch slowing internet speeds?

Le Sueur VIA St.Thomas

Hello,

I have cable internet at home. It has been virtually flawless for years. I also have a love/hate relationship with my google nest WiFi setup- it works great with all my other Google stuff except for when it doesn't. I dumped my 2 year old Google Nest setup a year ago due to multiple issues and got the Google Nest WiFi Pro. For the most part it has been good. Here's the issue- I have two unmanaged switches and everything that runs through both has much slower speeds than the stuff that runs off of just the first(main) one. Why is that?

I have a cable modem and am paying for and getting about 500 down and 40 up. Heres my setup: Cable Modem(Basement)-->Google Nest WiFi(main floor)--> 1st TP-Link gigbit switch(main floor) -->2nd TP-Link gigabit switch(identical one in basement). Everything is connected with ethernet cables. Everything that is directly plugged into the 1st switch runs at 500 down and 40 up. Everything that is connected to the second switch runs at 100 down and 40 up.

What's the deal? I dont use the basement that often, I haven't really noticed it until now. Thoughts? How do I troubleshot?

good luck -jim
