SE MN | If you are a bad farmer doing a bad job of farming then the yields you insure will also be bad and your odds of a claim are not higher. Bad farmers just insure 80% of a much lower number.
Sounds like crop insurance isn't for you. Many use it to feel comfortable with forward contracts/hedging, others use it to guard against a disaster like drought or hail. If those risks don't apply to you then I would definitely save the premium and not carry it.
Like anything else, this is a product that some unscrupulous soul will try to defraud and there are some changes that could be made that would make that harder to do and I would support that whole heartedly. | |
