Ky | I have done wheat several years in a row the things you have to watch out for are diseases and make sure you do your research on your seed and find some with good resistance to diseases. I would also recommend baling the straw to help remove the excess to lower your chances of diseases. I am in a high deer area and found that bearded wheat did better against deer. I was amazed at how the deer would bush hog non bearded wheat like it was nothing. Looked like someone bush hogged parts of the field from all the deer damage. Fungicide is expensive and you need to keep the wheat clean to avoid getting docked. | |
