I have definitely thought about wider spacing, not much availability of equipment up here though. Another factor to consider is the fact that we have no full flex hybrids yet. A few companies are working on them but without that ability to compensate with a bigger cob, going wider can have it's own challenges. I've often thought that doing a double 30, skip to 60, back to double 30 would be worth a try, especially on some of the ridge ground but I currently have no row clutches.
To be honest I think 15" spacing would be the best of both worlds, but you would need cross row singulation on the row units. I'm sure that will be coming at some point. You really need to plants to utilize the seed bed completely, in order to pay for the extra row units. At least with 15 you could use a 30" header. I've done it before and it worked mostly good. Couldn't see straight for a few days after though. Lol
In the end if it works for someone then great, do what's best for you. | |
