| I did when my boy was the same age. Talked about playing 1st grade flag all summer then got nerves and didn't want to the day before practice. We made him honor his commitment. Cries through most of the first practice.
Now he's a Jr in high school and starts on the offensive and defensive line. Absolutely loves the game and completely forgot about his not wanting to play 10 years ago.
I'd make the boy play this season and only this season. If he doesn't want to play after that you can always vsay "at least he tried".
On the flip side. My Sophomore is playing football and never stepped on a field till he was a freshman. The kids carrier isn't over if he doesn't play that young.
